The Bright Foundation Expands Lois Dale Scholarship for Des Moines Public School Students
Class of 2018 recipients from five high schools recognized at event
The Bright Foundation is pleased to announce that it has expanded its Lois Dale Scholarship to include students from all five comprehensive high schools in Des Moines. The scholarship is a need- and merit-based grant that honors outstanding high school seniors, ensuring they have the financial means to complete a two- or four-year college education without accumulating debt. Previously, the scholarship was only available to graduates of East High School.
This year’s Lois Dale Scholarship recipients include:
- Anfa Ahmed – Des Moines Area Community College
- Hao Chen – University of Iowa
- Rosemary Galdamez – Iowa State University
- Ngoc Anh Bich Le – Iowa State University
- Sonia Lopez – Des Moines Area Community College
- Reem Maki – Des Moines Area Community College
- Jennifer Marquez – Iowa State University
- Dayanna Martinez-Soto – University of Iowa
- Scott Nguyen – Iowa State University
- Tera Richardson – University of Iowa
- Tuan Truong – University of Iowa
- Esperance Umukundwa – Iowa State University
- Alejandro Zarate Murillo – University of Iowa
On May 9, 2018, the Bright Foundation held a reception for Lois Dale Scholarship recipients. Scholars honored in 2016, 2017 and 2018 attended the event along with family and guests of the newest recipients. Bright Foundation board members welcomed the students and shared information about the foundation. Representatives from all five high schools were also in attendance. During the event, remarks were provided by the following:
- Meredith Dohmen – Director of Scholarships, Bright Foundation
- Thomas Press – President and Managing Director, Bright Foundation
- Kathie Danielson – Principal, Hoover High School
- Thai Pham – Student, Iowa State University
All new scholars were presented with a medallion and Bright Story book from the Bright Foundation.
