What oppor­tu­ni­ties or expe­ri­ences have you been able to take part in that you might not have been able to with­out the scholarship?

I have been able to be very active on cam­pus with major-relat­ed clubs and extracur­ric­u­lars. I have been active on cam­pus all four year and have been able to pur­sue research, hold lead­er­ship posi­tions, trav­el for con­fer­ences and study abroad. I’ve had an oppor­tu­ni­ty to be involved with the following:

What is the most inter­est­ing thing you have done or are plan­ning to do to explore or gain expe­ri­ence in your career field?

I’m on a research team try­ing to recre­ate a solu­tion for the 6^th Glob­al Tra­jec­to­ry Opti­miza­tion Com­pe­ti­tion. It’s been super cool learn­ing new things about how to opti­mize space tra­jec­to­ries! I’m also in the McNair Schol­ars Pro­gram, which is a pro­gram that pre­pares stu­dents to obtain a PhD. My goal is to per­form research in space­craft tra­jec­to­ry nav­i­ga­tion and to one day teach.

How are you shar­ing your time and/​or tal­ents with oth­ers now? How do you hope to do so in the future?

I tutor, vol­un­teer and cook for my com­mu­ni­ty. It’s impor­tant for me to remem­ber where I came from and to give back to the com­mu­ni­ties that made me who I am today.

Where is your favorite place to study?

Math 400, which is the math lounge. No one knows about this place except for the math majors, of which there are only 100 or so. I found the lounge while walk­ing around Carv­er. It’s the best place to study and nap because it has com­fy couch­es and even a small kitchen!
