Bright Values: Invest Wisely
Beyond Finances
College is more than a financial investment. While it may be an academic or career investment, it is a time of huge personal growth, which occurs in and out of the classroom.
We see scholars investing in relationships, experiences, and their own self-care. Relationships can be personal and/or professional and sometimes one small investment can turn into something huge! As a professional example, we heard from a scholar who asked a professor about their research which led to connections in a lab which led to employment and research opportunities. This little investment of getting to know a professor had a huge pay-off for this scholar’s career.
We also know some investments can come at a cost and it is important to take care of yourself holistically. We see scholars investing in their own self-care by saying no to things that aren’t working for them, developing exercise routines, figuring out a regular sleep and study schedule, and also making sure they have time to have fun or even do nothing for a change!
We are also glad that the financial investment of the Bright Scholarships allows many students to invest in a variety of experiences while in college, which may or may not be related to their field of study. By participating in things like study abroad, clubs on campus, and volunteering in the community, scholars learn more about themselves, explore or discover passions, and build valuable relationships.
All of this is a wise investment!
